Period 95th Planning date: 02/05/2021 Unit 12: ROBOTS Lesson 2: A closer look 1 A. Objectives 1. Knowledge: - Use the lexical items relating to ability, - Pronounce the sound the sounds /ɔI/ and /aʊ/ correctly in isolation and in context, - Use “could” to talk about ability in the past. 2. Competences: Co-operation, self-study, communication, creative capacity 3. Qualities: studious, responsible and honest. 4. Skills: Listening, speaking, writing and reading B. Preparation 1. Teacher: Textbook, lesson plan, flashcards, laptop, loudspeaker, projector. 2. Students: Textbook, notebook, pen C. Procedures I. Warm-up: Jumbled words 1. ROCENGSIE => RECOGNISE 2. KEAM => MAKE 3. UENDRATNSD => UNDERSTAND 4. TFLI => LIFT 5. GRAUD => GUARD - Have Ss do the task individually as quickly as possible - Get the rest of the class to give comments - T gives feedback if necessary. - Have Ss to read the words after T II. Presentation 1. Pronunciation: the sounds /ɔI/ and /aʊ/ - T plays the clip on how to pronounce the sounds /ɔI/ and /aʊ/. - Ss listen and make the sounds /ɔI/ and /aʊ/ as the sample clip. - T explains more if necessary. 2. Dialogue build: (Grammar: Modal verb “could”) Jane: Hey, Tom. Could you swim when you were five? Tom: Oh, no. I couldn’t. Jane: What language could you speak when you were in primary school? Tom: I could speak English. - Have Ss practice the dialogue in pairs - Ask Ss to find out the form and the use of “could” * Form: (+) S + could + Vbare + O (- ) S + could not/ couldn't + Vbare + O (?) Could + S + Vbare + O Yes, S + could. No, S + couldn't. * Use: We use “could” to talk about ability in the past III. Practice 1. Matching: (Vocabulary: task 1/p60) A B 1. recognize a. coffee 2. make b. what someone says 3. understand c. our faces 4.lift d. the house 5. guard e. heavy things - Have Ss match the verbs in column A to the words/ phrases in column B. - Get some Ss to read the expressions. - T corrects if necessary. 2. Role-play: (Grammar “could”, task 4/p60) - Have Ss work in pairs. (closed -> open pairs) - Call some pairs to practice in front of the class - Others Ss give comments for each pair (Remind Ss that they only use information from the table in 4 to ask and answer about what the famous robot Ongaku could or couldn’t do two years ago) Example: S1: Could Ongaku lift the heavy things two years ago? S2: Yes, it could. 3. Grid – fill Listen and repeat. And then put the words in the correct column. - T Plays the recording and ask Ss to listen and repeat. - Have Ss put the words in the correct column while listening. - Ss compare their answers in pairs before checking the answers as a whole class. /ɔI/ /aʊ/ voice down boy house toy around noisy flower boil shout IV. Production 1. Ordering: (task 3/p60) Put the words in the correct order. - Have Ss do the task in groups of four - Each group writes the answer on a poster. After finishing, hang the posters around the classroom. - The groups check one another and give comments. - T gives feedback if necessary. Key: 1. Mary could do sums at the age of 7. 2. Could you read and write when you were 6? 3. Robots could lift heavy things some years ago. 4. Robots couldn’t move easily until recent years. 2. Writing: Write about your ability in the past - Get Ss to write one thing they could do and one thing they couldn’t do when they were at primary school. - Ask Ss to work individually and share their sentences with their partners. - Call some Ss to say their sentences in front of the class. Example: I could ride a bike but I couldn’t swim when I was at primary school. V. Homework - Learn by heart all the new words and structures. - Do A1, 2 P40 in workbook - Prepare for Unit 12: A closer look 2 Period 96th SON LINH PRIMARY AND SECONDARY SCHOOL UNIT 12: ROBOTS Lesson 4: Communication A. OBJECTIVES: By the end of the lesson, students will be able to: 1. Knowledge: - Talk about different types of robots & what they will be able to do in the future. - Ask and answer question about abilities or skills of robots. Express agreement and disagreement - Use lexical items related to the topic "Robots"(comb, bend over, shout, gardening) 2. Competence: - Communication, ability to use language (asking and answering question about abilities or skills of robots.) - Self-learning capacity( find information about different types of robots& what they will be able to do in the future.), - Creative capacity ( making conversation, speech). 3. Quality: hardworking, responsible and honest. 4. Skills: listening and speaking 5. Grammar points: could for past ability Will be able to for future ability B. TEACHING AIDS: Ss’ books, projector, cards C. PROCEDURES * Warm up: Chatting - What skills do you like a robot to have? - What types of robots do you know? - What will they be able to do? .. - Are robotsnecessaryto our daily life? Why? Why not? I . Pre-speaking 1. Vocabulary - Get students to do a matching exercise to revise the words. Activity 1: Listen and Fill in the gaps: - T shows some types of robots on screen and gets students to talk freely about their knowledge of these robots. - Have ss read the interview and ask them to look carefully at the pictures of three robots and guess the missing word for each gap. - T plays the record. - Ask ss to close their books and to listen only. - T plays the record again - Allow ss to fill in the gaps - Ask them to share their answer in pairs. - Check their answer. Activity 1: (mapped dialogue) - Imagine that Ss will have a robot in the future.Tell their partners what skills they want their robots to have. - T gives students 5 minutes to work in groups of 4-5 to ask and answer the questions about robots: S1: What could robots do in the past? S2 : ................................................... S1 : What will robots be able to do in the future? S2 : .. S1: What types of robots do you want to have? S2: ...................................................... - T gets 5 pairs from groups to represent their performance. 2. Activity 2:Report the result of their interviews in front of the whole class. - T gets each student from groups to represent their report. III. Post-speaking 1.Activity 1: T sets the target task: T asks students to talk about their favorite robots) (in groups of 4). T may provide the following prompt frame as a guided support / suggested ideas: E.g: In the past, robots could.............., In the future, I think robot will be able to........................ I want to have a.............................robot. It will be able to help me to ..................... It will be able to....................... too. 2.Activity2: Use suggested questions to sum up what Ss have learnt in the lesson ? What can you master after the lesson? - Talk about different types of robots & what they will be able to do in the future. - Ask and answer question about abilities or skills. - Vocabulary: comb, bend over, shout, gardening - Grammar: present simple/ past simple - Knowledge about Robots and their abilities ? Period 97 Unit 12: ROBOTS Lesson 5: Skill 1 A. OBJECTIVES: By the end of the lesson, students will be able to: 1. Knowledge: + use the lexical items related to the topic “Robots” + read for specific information about types of robots and their abilities or skills + talk about different types of robots and what they will be able to do in the future 2. Competence: Communication, Co- operation, Self – learning capacity, Creative capacity 3. Quality: studious, responsible and honest. 4. Skills: reading and speaking. B. TEACHING AIDS: Textbook, pictures, posters. C. PROCEDURES * Warm up: Brainstorming - We all know that different robots have different skills and abilities. So where can robots work? Can you give your ideas about this? At home At school Places where robots In the hospital work In the factory In the supermarket In the space In the army - T divides the class into 2 teams: A and B - The team with more correct words/phrases will be the winner I. Pre- reading 1.
