Period 52 : Read + Language Focus 1, 2
A.Objectives: By the end of this lesson students will be able to understand the
content of the text: Opinions feelings and memories of children about their
fathers on the Father’s Day in Australia and the USA.
1.Language contents:
- Vocabulary: considerate ,generous ,terrific, sense of humor, priority
,distinguish
2. Competences: Co-operation, self-study, communication, creative capacity
3. Qualities: studious, responsible and honest.
4. Skills: writing and reading for specific information about the father
B- Content:
* Warm up: Brainstorm: Celebrations.
- Example: Teachers’ Day
I. Pre Reading:
1. Vocabulary:
considerate (adj): ân cần, chu đáo (explanation)
generous (adj): rộng l-ợng (translation)
terrific (adj): cực kì lớn, kinh khủng (translation)
sense of humor (n) : khiếu hài huớc (translation)
priority (n): sự -u tiên, quyền -u tiên (translation)
distinguish (v) : làm cho phân biệt (translation)

2. Pre- questions: -What do these people think about their fathers?

II. While Reading:
- Have students read the text and check their predictions.
* Matching: guess ngày c-ới

- Have students read the questions and answer them.
- Call on some students to read aloud.
- Correct: a. to her Dad.

III.Post Reading:
1) Discuss.
Have students tell something about their fathers.
2) Language focus 1& 2.
- Give the aim and the requirement of exercise
- Explain the relative clauses.
* Mệnh đề quan hệ là một bộ phận của câu, nó cho chúng ta biết ng-ời hay
vật nào mà ng-ời nói muốn ám chỉ.
+ Chúng ta dùng Who trong mệnh đề quan hệ khi chúng ta nói về ng-ời.
+ Chúng ta dùng Which trong mệnh đề quan hệ khi chúng ta nói về vật.
Ex: Tet is a festival which occurs in late January or early February.

- Explain the defining relative clause and non-defining relative clause.
- Ask students to work in pair to do language focus 1 and 2.
- Teacher checks and gives feedback.

L. 2: Describe each of the people in the pictures
*Ex: - I am the boy who is wearing a while T - Short
- My aunt Judy is the woman who is holding Jack
*Suggested answers :
-Mom is the woman who is sitting in an armchair receiving a gift from the little
girl.
-Dad is the man who is standing behind my sister
-Linda is the girl who is wearing a pink dress/ giving a gift to mom.
-Grandmother is the woman who is wearing a violet blouse/ giving a gift to the
baby .
-Uncle John is the man who is wearing a pink jumper.
-Jack is the little boy who is sitting on his mother's lap .
IV. Homework: 1. Learn by heart Vocabulary.
2. Rewrite the answers and do exercises in workbook
3. Prepare for Lesson 5

Period 53: Writing
A. Objectives: By the end of this lesson students will be able to: write a letter to
express their idea about a problem.
1. Language contents: Vocabulary: Express, Enhance, Support, Reason
2. Competences: Co-operation, self-study, communication, creative capacity
3. Qualities: studious, responsible and honest.
4. Skills: writing a letter to express their idea about a problem.
B. Procedures
Warm up:
Greeting:
- Teacher:
Do we have a day to celebrate for our Mother or Father?
Do you think it is necessary to have a day for them?
Why?
- Students give their idea:
Express the feelings, memories and love for parents
Enhance family traditions reasons
Bring family members closer
I. Pre Writing
1) Vocabulary
express (v): bày tỏ.
enhance (v): đề cao.
support (v): ủng hộ.
reason (n): lớ do.
2) Read the outline.
- Elicit the situation:
We think that it is necessary to have a day to celebrate for our Moms and another
for our Dads. Now read the outline to know why and what we should do in those
days.
- Have students read the outline.
- Have them discuss in pairs and take notes.
II. While Writing

- Ask students to write a letter to a friend to share the idea: It’s necessary to
celebrate Mother’s day or Father’s Day. (in group of six)
III. Post Writing
- Have students show their writing on the board.
- Correct: suggested idea:
* First paragraph:
In my opinion, it’s necessary/ important/ essential to have a day to celebrate
for our parents.
- Reasons:
+ Children will have a special day to express their feelings, memories and love
for their parents.
+ We have an opportunity to enhance family traditions.
+ Members of families can have a chance to get together to know one another
and to help one another.
* Second paragraph:
- When to celebrate:
+ First Sunday of April. Sunday is a day off
+ April is late spring or early summer and the weather is generally at
this time of the year, many activities can happen outdoors.
- How to celebrate:
+ It’s not necessary to have parties but it’s a good idea to have lunch
or dinner with all members of the family.
+ Children should give their parents flowers, send them cards or bring
them a special cake.
+ Children should serve their parents the food they like best.
* Third paragraph:
- I believe the idea will be supported and the day will be celebrated nationwide
because everybody loves their parents and wants their parents to be happy.
IV. Homework:
1. Rewrite the letter.
2. Do exercise 2, 3, 4 (workbook)
3. Prepare for Unit 9: Language focus 1,2
