UNIT 9: FESTEIVALS AROUND THE WORLD
Lesson 6: Skills 2
A. Objectives: By the end of the lesson, students will be able to:
1. Knowledge:
- Listen to get specific information about a music festival.
- Write a description of the festival they attended.
2. Competence: Communication, ability to use language, self-learning capacity,
co-operation
3. Quality: hardworking, responsible and honest.
4. Skills: Listening and writing
B. Teaching aids: Ss’ books, projector, cards, laptop
C. Procedures
I. Warm up: - Greetings.
- Present what they know about an unusual festival.
II. Pre listening
1. Activity 1: Discussion
- Ss work in pairs, look at the pictures and say what kind of festival it is. They then
share their answer with the whole group.
2. Activity 2: True/ false statements prediction.
Ss read the statements in exercise 2 and guess if they are true or false. Write their
guesses on the board. Play the recording and ask Ss to listen to check their guesses.
Ss work in pairs to compare their answers before T plays the recording a second time
for pairs to check their answers. Ask for Ss' answers and write them on the board next
to their guesses. Don't confirm the correct answers now.
III. While - listening:
1. Activity 1: Correcting the True/ false statements
Keys: 1. F (one of the most famous festivals) 2. T 5. T
3. F (They stayed in a tent.) 4. F (He's Nick's father's favourite singer.)
2. Activity 2: Answer the questions:
Without listening to the recording, Ss answer the questions. If they meet any
difficulty doing this, play the recording again. Have Ss compare their answers in
pairs before giving T the answers. Some Ss write their answers on the board. Play
the recording the last time to confirm the answers to both 2 and 3.

IV. Post listening
1. Activity 1: Writing
Make notes about a festival you attended:
- Ss think of one festival they attended and make notes following the suggestions in
the book.

- They can share their notes with a classmate after finishing. If time allows, have some
Ss to share their notes with the whole class. Make any necessary comments.
2. Activity 2: Write about the festival you attended:
- Ss write their paragraph individually based on the notes they have made. Ask one or
two Ss to write the paragraph on the board. Other Ss and T comment on the
paragraph(s) on the board. Then T collects some Ss’ writing to correct at home.
3. Activity 3: feedback
V. Homework:
1. Finish your writing + Do exercises in workbook.
2. Prepare “Looking back + Project”.

- Review the lexical items related to ‘festival’
- Review the way how to mark in two-syllable words

co-operation.

4. Skills: Listening, speaking and writing

- Check Ss’ preparation
II. Vocabulary
1. Activity 1. Rearrange and match the words with the correct pictures:
- Ss do this activity individually then compare their answers with a partner.
- Ask Ss to go to the board and write their answers.
- Check Ss' answers. May ask if Ss know the name of the festivals in the pictures.

- Ss make up their own sentences with the adverbial phrases in the box.

- Ss work in pairs to role-play: ask and answer about their favourite festival.
- Ask some pairs to act out the role-play. Other Ss comment and vote for the best
conversation.
