Aims By the end of the lesson, Ss will be able to use lexical items related to television. - Skills: Listen, reading, speaking, writing - Teaching aids: loudspeaker, pictures B. Procedure: * Warm up: Shark attack (television, programme, ... ) Chatting something about TV programmes I. Vocabulary: + channel (n): kênh ( Example ) + stupid (a): ngốc nghếch ( Translation ) + schedule (n) : lịch trình, chương trình ( Example ) + programme (n): chương trình ( Explanation ) = program + popular (a): phổ biến ( Explanation ) + entertaining (n): có tính giải trí ( Explanation ) * R.O. R II. Dialogue 1. Listen and read - Set the scene: ? Who are they? What are they doing? (They are talking about TV programmes) - Play the recording and ask Ss to listen - Ss practice reading in pairs then read the dialogue aloud in pairs - Do delayed correction about Ss' pronunciation, intonation, stress... 2. Read and answer the questions - Ss read the dialogue again and answer the questions individually - Let them share the answers with their partners - Ss give feedback * Key: 1. Laughing out Loud 3. Read and find the adjectives for each character - Let Ss look at the adjectives first, then find suitable adjective for each character * Key: Mr. Bean: funny, awful Tom: stupid, funny Jerry: intelligent 4. Aims By the end of the lesson, Ss will be able to use the lexical items related to television; pronounce the sound / θ / and / ð / correctly in isolation and in context. - Skills: Listening, speaking, writing - Teaching aids: loudspeaker, pictures B. Procedures * Warm up - Say some things about the TV programs: news, football matches, ‘The weekend meeting”, cartoons, 'The way to Olympia'... or the channel: VTV1 and VTV3, ... I. Vocabulary 1. Matching - Ask Ss to work in groups of 2-3, write the words in the box under the pictures. Remind Ss of the words they learnt in Getting Started and point out the different: the former deals with the names of channels, programs... while the latter deals with the jobs of people working in television or things related to it. - Let Ss listen to the recording to check their answers as well as to practice the pronunciation of the new words. 2. Choose a word from the box for each description below: - Have Ss do the work individually. - Check and correct. 3. Game 'What is it?' - Lead Ss to play the game. - Ask Ss to refer to Ex2 and the suggested structures in Ex3 to see how a word is defined. II. Pronunciation 1. Listen and repeat the words: - Present the sounds and the way to sound them (put the tongue between teeth) - Let Ss listen and repeat the words. 2. Listen and write the above words in the correct column. - Ask Ss to write the words in the two appropriate boxes. - Check if they do it correctly. 3. Tongue Twister: - Allow Ss to practice reading the tongue twister among themselves: slowly at first then faster and faster. - Hold a competition to see who can read the tongue twister fast and correctly. III. Homework: 1. Learn by heart the definitions for the words in Ex1. 2. Do assignments in workbook: Part A, Part B (Ex1, 2). 3. Grammar 1. Wh – questions 1. Brainstorm - Ask Ss to brainstorm all the question words they have learnt - Check, correct * Key: What, Who, Where, Why, Whose, When, Which, How 2. (Note that so and because can be interchangeably used in the same sentence with different clause). 1. Use and, but, so, because, although to complete the sentence - Ask Ss to read the questions carefully and decide what the relationship between the ideas or clauses is, note on the using of punctuation: a comma with so and although. - Ss do individually then share with their partners - Check, correct * Key: 1. and 2.
