Week 1 Date of teaching: 15/9/2021 Period 2 UNIT 1: HOME Lesson 1 (p. 6) A. AIMS OF THE LESSON I. Knowledge By the end of this lesson, students will be able to : - Know some words about home. - Use present simple to talk about things that are facts or true for a long time. - Listen to a short dialogue to develop listening skill. - Know how to use the expression ‘Excuse me’ II. Ability : - During lesson students can develop communication skills and creativity. - Student will demonstrate teamwork skills III. Quality : - Students have positive attitude in English language learning to participate in all classroom activities with the topic “ Home ” - Students wil Build their love for family, homes and community after lesson. - Build their love for family, homes and classmates B. TEACHING AIDS - Teacher’s aids: student book and teacher’s book, class CDs, flashcards, projector or TV - Students’ aids: Student books, notebooks, workbooks. C. PROCEDURE I. Warm-up: Guessing game: - Teacher shows chain of pictures of places. - After watching, A Student comes to the board and receive flashcard of the places they have just seen. Pick out the ones they saw. - Other students guess the place by giving questions Yes/ No. Suggested Q&A: Is that a living room?- No Is that a garden?- Yes - At the end of the game, Teacher introduces new lesson. II. Presentation: Activity 1. Teach new words. - Use pictures to introduce the new words: New words: 1. pool (n) 2. balcony (n) 3. apartment (n) 4. garage (n) 5. gym (n) 6. yard (n) - Have students listen and repeat each new word. (chorally – individually) - Correct student’s pronunciation if necessary. Checking new word: - Have students look at the pictures, and fill in the blanks with words given. (exercise a/p. 6) - Listen again to check the answers. Answer: 1. Pool 2. Apartment 3. Gym 4. Balcony 4. Garage 5. Yard Activity 2: watching a video clip, name the places. - Teacher shows a video clip made about an apartment. - Have students watch the video, pause sometimes for students to name the places. (Balcony, kitchen, bedroom, living room, yard, pool, garage). - Teacher checks, corrects and gives feedback. III. Practice: Activity 3: Speaking: - Teacher makes example sentences with new words. - Ask students to work in pairs, talk about their house, using new words. (exercise b/p. 6) - Some pairs present in front of the class. - Teacher checks and corrects. Example. My house has a balcony. There’s a small yard in front of my house... Activity 4: Listening. - Teacher shows the picture of the task, asks students some questions about it. (exercise a/p. 6) Suggested Q&A: How many people are there? – Three people Are they family members? - No Are they classmates? – Yes. - Teacher has students work in pairs, read the sentences, guess the answers (exercise b/p. 6) - Listen and check their guess (listen the 1st time) - Listen again to check their answers. - Teacher checks and corrects. Answer: 1. an apartment 2. 2 bedrooms 3. pool 4. garage - Teacher shows the dialogue, students listen and repeat. - T asks Ss: Which stuation do we use expression “Excuse me”? - Ss answer – T feedback. III. Production: Activity 5: Option 1: - Pair work. + Ask Ss to get their partner’s attention then making a request Option 2: Song “We are a Family” - The whole class sings the song together. IV. Knowledge By the end of this lesson, students will be able to : - Know how to use present simple tense. - Use present simple to talk about things that are facts or true for a long time. - Use present simple to talk about homes II. Ability : - Students can improve their grammar in use. - Students can develop their communication skill, creativity, cooperation, self- studying and problem solving. III. Quality : - Students have positive attitude in English language learning to participate in all classroom activities with the topic “ Home ” - Build their love for family, homes and classmates B. TEACHING AIDS - Teacher’s aids: student book and teacher’s book, class CDs, flashcards, projector - Students’ aids: Student books, notebooks, workbooks. C. PROCEDURE I. Warm up : Listen and match the Words to the correct pictures. II. Presentation. *Dialogue build. - T reads and students repeat - T gives out model sentences - T elicits the form of present simple tense from students. Nam: .. you live in an apartment? Hoa: No, I ... . I live in a house. Nam: Your house have a big yard? Hoa: Yes, it - T asks Ss fill in the Gaps and practice reading.   Model sentences : I live in a house. I don’t live in an apartment. Do you live in an apartment ?  Form : I / you / we / they + (V) He / she / it + (Vs/es) I / you / we / they + don’t + V He / she / it + doesn’t + V Do + you / we / they + live ? Does + He / she / it + live ?  Use : We use present simple to talk about things that are facts or true for a long time. III. Practice 1. Choose Correct or Incorrect a. I doesn’t live in a house. b. Gap fill : task b/ p.7 - Teacher shows the task and explains the way to do - T asks ss to do the task individually and then compare the answers with the partner. - Some volunteer students show the answers on the board. - Teacher checks and corrects. Option 1 : Survey - T gives ss the handouts and ask them work in group of 4. - Ask ss to use Yes/ No questions . - Put a tick if he/she says ‘Yes’ and put a cross if he/ she says ‘No’. - T models Example : S1: Do you live in a house ? Option 2: Speaking T Asks Ss talk about Their friends’house ( Work in group of 4) Example : Nam lives in a house. Her house has a big yard, a pool but it doesn’t have a pool. V. Date of teaching:18/9/2021 Period: 4 UNIT 1: HOME LESSON 1: Pronuciation + Speaking (PAGE 8) I. AIMS OF THE LESSON. 1. Knowledge. - By the end of the lesson, students will be able to: - know how to use Yes/ No questions with right intonation to ask and answer about their home. - talk about your home using the words : the types of house, things in a house 2. Ability: - Students can improve their 2 skills: Listening and Speaking - Students can develop the ability to communicate and cooperate with their partners, to self- study, to solve problems in conversation situations. 3. Quality: - Students have positive attitude in English language learning so that they actively participate in all classroom activities, especially with the topic “Home” conducted by the teacher. - Students can show their love toward their home and their responsibility for them. II. TEACHING EQUIPMENT AND LEARNING MATERIALS. - Lesson plan, PPT slides, Student’s book, workbook, ebook, personal computer (if any), projector/TV, speakers. III. PROCEDURES A. Warm up: 1. Option 1: Memorising Games - T divides class into 2 teams - T asks Ss to watch a video about a house: in 3 minutes and remember all the things in the house - T sets the time and gets the sts to come to the board and write the things in a house as many as possible. Which group with more correct words will win. 2. Option 2: Chatting T asks sts to answer the question: - What is this ? - Is this house big/ modern? - How many rooms are their in this house? - Does this house have a garden / a balcony? - T leads to the lesson. 3. Game “BINGO” -T explains the rules of the game: - T gives each S / each pair a small piece of paper and get them to write seven words relating to the house - Show word by word on the screen (randomly) - Have Ss use a red pen to check whether the words on the screen are the same as those in their paper - The first student / pair to get all 5 words from the screen will say “BINGO” and be the winner of the game - Give a small gift to the winner - Lead to the new lesson. B. PRE - SPEAKING 1.Pronunciation. - Play the recording (CD1, track 06) - Ask Ss to listen and pay attention to the intonation - Call Ss to make their comments on the intonation of the Yes/No question they’ve just listened to - Give feedback, explain the pronunciation feature: intonation for Yes/No question goes up - Play the recording again, have Ss listen and repeat with a focus on the pronunciation feature - Play the recording (CD 1 – Track 07), have Ss listen and cross out the option that doesn’t use the correct intonation - Call Ss to give answers - Play the recording again and check answers as a whole class - Then have Ss practice saying the sentences with a partner, using the correct intonation, encourage Ss to use their own idea - Call some pairs to read in front of the class - Give feedback if necessary. 2.Set the scene - T gets sts to look at the picture of a house and sets the scene to get students familiar with the situation. - T makes some questions related to the content of the dialouge - What is it? - Is this house modern ? - Does this house have a swimming pool? - T tells sts that they are going to talk about the houses C. WHILE – SPEAKING. 1. Controlled practice 1: Option 1 :Making questions and answers.( Practice – Page 8) Picture A Picture B Picture C Picture D - T asks Ss to look at the pictures ,work in pairs, make Yes/ No questions and answers. - T demonstrates the activity by asking and answering with a student - Have Ss work in pairs, point to the pictures, ask and answer - Have some pairs demonstrate the activity in front of the class - Give feedback if necessary. 2.Controlled practice 2 Dialogue build A B Where do you live ? Yes, there is. ............................................ - T has sts talk about their own house in pairs or in groups, using as much information as possible about their own house. - T provides more knowledge related if being asked from sts. D. POST- SPEAKING. * Option 1:Chain game - T gets 4 volunteered sts to come to the board and in turns, saying one sentence about their home Ex: S1: I live in an apartment in Huong Son district. S2: I live in an apartment in Huong Son district. It has five rooms: a living room, three bedrooms and a dining room. S3: I live in an apartment in Huong Son district . It has five rooms: a living room, three bedrooms and a dinning room.There is a table and six chairs in the living room. S4: .. * Option 2: Self – home introduction - T gets sts to work in groups, freely talk about their home. Ex: I live in an apartment in Huong Son district. It has five rooms: a living room, three bedrooms and a dinning room.There is a table and six chairs in the living room . Option 3: Survey - Demonstrate the activity by practicing role-play with a student - Have Ss fill complete the table with information about their home - Have Ss work in groups to ask their friends about their home - Observe, give help if necessary - Have Ss report to the class about their group, follow this example: - Give feedback and evaluation. E. HOMEWORK Guide students to do the tasks assigned. - Teacher guides students to have a look back on the lesson at home, do exercises in workbook and get ready for the next lesson. - Students : + Pratice making Yes/ No questions, do exercises in workbook (page 8) and practise talking about their home. + prepare for the new lesson. ==================================================================== =====
