Aims By the end of the lesson Ss will be able to listen to a conversation between Nga and Kate (talking about Nga’s learning English) and check true / false statements. - Teaching aid: T’s and Ss’ books, Loudspeaker, cassette - Lexical Items: national, international - Grammar: B. Procedures I. Pre-listening 1. Pre-teach vocabulary - national (adj): thuộc quốc gia ( translation ) - international (adj): thuộc quốc tế ( translation ) */ Checking: R.O.R 2. Set the scene: Questions: Who are they ? What are they doing ? hat are they talking about ? 3. T/F Prediction T/F Statements ( on an extra-board ) a) Nga’s studying English for her work. b) She learned English at school and university. c) She works for a national bank in Hanoi. d) She needs to improve her writing. e) Her listening is excellent. f) She hopes she can talk to people from all over the world, and understand her favorite English songs. - Have Ss read these statements and guess if they are T/F. - Pair-work. II. While-listening - Have Ss listen to the Loudspeaker the first time. Question: What are they talking about? ( ...about Nga’s learning English ) - Have Ss listen to the Loudspeaker the second time and check their predictions. - Have Ss share with their partners. - Ss listen to the Loudspeaker the third time to check their answers. - T gets Ss’ answers and corrects if necessary. Homework - Write it up. - Do exercises - Prepare for Reading Loudspeaker transcript: Host: Kate, can I introduce you to Nga? She’s studying English here in London. Kate: Hello, please to meet you Nga: Please to meet you, too. Kate: Where are you from, Nga? Nga: I’m from Viet Nam. Kate: Why are you studying English here? Nga: I need it for my job. Kate: Really? So what do you do? Nga: I work for a bank, an international bank in Ha Noi Kate: Oh, I see. Did you learn English at school? Nga: Yes, and at university, too. But I’ve forget er..forget.. Kate: forgotten Nga: Yes, of course. I’ve forgotten a lot of it. I want to improve my writing skills. You know sometimes I have to write letters in English. Kate: What about listening, Nga? It’s terrible. This is my biggest problem. People talk very quickly and I can’t understand them. Kate: Do you like studying English? Nga: Oh yes. It’s an interesting Language and it’s very useful; and I can talk to people from all over the world and I can understand the words of my favorite songs, too. Kate: Well. That’s very good. Aims After the lesson, Ss will be able to get the information about the English classes from the advertisements. - Teaching aids: Loudspeaker, poster, extra board - Lexical Items: intermediate, well-qualified, academy, council - Grammar: B. Procedures I. Warm – up: Open question - Have you ever taken part into van evening E class? - Have you ever read any advertisement for E classes? II. Pre – reading 1. Pre – teach vocabulary - intermediate (adj): trung cấp (explanation) - well-qualified (adj): có chất lượng (translation) - tuition (n): gia sư, dạy kèm (explanation) - academy (n): học viện (explanation) - Council (n): Hội đồng (translation) • Checking: R – R 2. T/F statement prediction ( close their books) a. Mr. Lam needs to learn China b. Mr. Lam needs the intermediate level class c. He wants to learn in the morning d. He wants the course to begin early October. - Ask Ss to guess what Mr. Tam need for his class (T/F) in groups - Ask them to write their prediction on extra board III. While – reading 1. Post – reading - Give a note the same Mr. Lam’s and - Ask Ss to look at the advertisements again and choose a suitable class for Mrs. Lan Key: Mr. Lam should choose the foreign Language Council because it is suitable for what he wants V.
