UNIT 3: A TRIP TO THE COUNTRYSIDE
Lesson 1: Getting started + Listen and read + LF 1
A. Aims
After the lesson Ss will be able to describe about the village and talk about
activities in the countryside
- Teaching aids: textbook, Loudspeakers, pictures
- Lexical Items: banyan tree, shrine, river bank, bamboo forest, go boating,
- Grammar: structure “wish” with modal verbs
B. Procedure
I. Warm up: Chatting
- Do you live in the country or in the city?
- Where do these people live?
- Picture 1. What’s she doing?...
II. Presentation
1. Pre- teach vocabulary
- banyan tree (n): cây đa (picture)
- shrine (n): đền, miếu (picture)
- river bank (n): bờ sông (explanation)
- bamboo forest (n): luỹ tre (picture)
- go boating (v): đi chèo thuyền (mime)
• Checking: R- R
Structure Review: “wish”
Present “wish”: S + wish(es) + S + Md.V + V
2. T/F Prediction
a) Thao and her family had a two day trip to their home village
b) Many people like going there for their weekends
c) There is a small bamboo forest at the entrance to
d) Lan had a snack at the house of Ba’s uncle
e) There is a shine on the mountain near Ba’s uncle
f) Everyone left the village late in the evening
g) Everyone had a picnic on the mountain
h) Liz had a video tape to show the trip to her parents
i) Liz wants to go there again.
III. Practice
1. Checking prediction

- Play the Loudspeaker
- Let Ss read silently and check T/F
- Read the text again and answer part b
- Let Ss work in pairs
- Teacher corrects and gives the keys

- Have Ss read the paragraph again and

IV. Further Practice

- Ss work in groups of four
- Call some Ss to write the answers on the board.

Lesson 2: Speaking + LF 2,3
A. Aims
By the end of the lesson, Ss will be able to improve their speaking skill by
asking and getting information about village
- Teaching aids: Extra – board, poster, textbook
- Lexical Items:
- Grammar: Prepositions of time
B. Procedure
I. Warm up
Ask Ss to give the main ideas in the test about Ba’s village
Ask Ss to make sentences with these phrases
E.g.: Ba’s village is to the north of Ha Noi
II. Pre – speaking
- Sets the scene: talk about home village.
- Hangs on the extra – board with questions on page 24 on BB
- Reviews W-H questions (How far .? How long ?)
- Explains the meaning of questions 5.
III. While – speaking
- Asks Ss to look at question and then look at the yellow box
- Asks Ss to practice in pair the example once ( pink box )
- Asks Ss to make a pair of sentences
Ex: How far is it from the city?
It’s 30 kilometers from the city
• Mapped dialogue
- Divide class into two group : Group A and Group B
- Introduces the situation: A student plays the role of the Asker, and a
student plays the role of student A ( or student B )
- Asks Ss to make the dialogue using questions and the information about
A’s village
- Asks Ss to look at the map on BB and practice the dialogue in pairs.

How to get there by bus
How long to get there? 1hour
Group B: (similar to group A, but they practice with B’ s information
- Asks one or two pairs of each group to practice in from class.
- Feedback ( correct mistakes if necessary)
- Asks Ss to make a table similar to A or B with their own village’s
information
• Interview:
- Ask Ss to go to BB, and his classmates ask questions about his village –
one by one and the Ss on BB answer questions
- Feedback
IV. Post – speaking
