Objectives: By the end of the lesson, students will be able to: 1. Knowledge: - Talk to one another about what they think there might be on Mars, on the moon and on other planets. - Lexical Items: microorganism, gemstone, sparkling, mineral, trace, creature - Grammar: may/might, conditional type 2 2. Competence: communication, ability to use language, self-learning capacity, creative capacity 3. Quality: hardworking, responsible and honest. 4. Skills: listening and speaking, writing B. Preparation - Teacher: Textbook, lesson plan, flashcards, laptop, loudspeaker, projector. - Students: Textbook, notebook, pen C. Procedures I. Warm up: Word square S E A R T H M U M E R C S R N S A U R S R U B R A A R V C Y M O O N T S Answer key: earth, sun, stars, moon, mercury II. Pre - speaking 1. Pre – teach vocabulary - microorganism (n): vi sinh vật (translation) - gemstone (n): đá quý (realia) - sparkling (adj): lấp lánh (realia) - creature (n): sinh vật (translation) - trace (n): dấu vết (visual) - mineral (n): khoáng sản (example) Check: R-O-R 2. These are drawings of things. Try to guess and match the drawings with their names. Answers: 1.minerals, 2. water, 3.mountain, 4.plants, 5.little creatures, 6.gas. 7. gemstone. III.While – speaking * Picture drill. Example: What’s this? This may be water on Mars. 1.-What are they? –They may be minerals on Mars. 2.-What are they? – They might be plants on Mars. 3.-What’s this? – This may be gas on Mars. 4.-What are they? – They might be gemstones on Mars. 5.-What are they? – They may be little creatures. *Practice the dialogue /P85: Call on some pairs of students to practice the dialogue. Correct their pronunciation: Nam: What do these drawings say, Hung? Hung: There might be water on Mars. Nam: And what about those black sparkling spots on the right corner? Hung: Well, they might be traces of gemstones. There may be a lot of precious stones on Mars. *Making dialogue: Have students make the similar dialogue about the drawings, using cues in 3a. IV. Post – speaking a) Have Ss do language focus 1, 3, 4 in textbook, b) Call some Ss to write the answers on the board. c) T corrects if necessary. V. Objectives: By the end of the lesson, Ss will be able to: 1. Knowledge: - Listen and know the main information about the moon. - Vocabulary: expert, sound, jump, one-sixth, two-fifth, crater 2. Competence: Communication, Co- operation, Self – learning capacity, Creative capacity 3. Quality: studious, responsible and honest. 4. Skills: Listening and writing, speaking. B. Preparation - Teacher: Textbook, lesson plan, flashcards, laptop, loudspeaker, projector. - Students: Textbook, notebook, pen C. Procedures: I. Warm – up: Brainstorming what may there be on the moon? rivers II. Pre – listening 1. Pre – teach vocabulary - expert (n): chuyên gia (translation) - sound (n): âm thanh (explanation) - jump (v): nhảy (mime) - one-sixth : 1/6 (explanation) - crater (n): miệng núi lửa (picture) Checking: R – R 2. Open - predictions T says: “You will listen to the description of the moon, but before listening you should read the statements on page 86 and guess which is correct and which not” - Have Ss guess the statements are correct or not - Ss write the prediction on the board. III.While – listening 1. Comprehension questions a) Why are there no sounds on the moon? b) How many craters are there on the moon? c) How heavy are you on the moon if you weigh 50 kilos on the earth? d) Will you sleep well on the moon? Why (not) d) Have Ss listen to the tape again and answer the questions - Ss compare the answers and write them on the board. - Other students correct - T corrects if necessary. Answer key: a) Because there is no air on the moon. b) There are about 30.000 craters on the moon. c) If I weigh 50 kilos on the earth, I’ll weigh only a little more than 8 kilos on the moon. d) No, we won’t. Because one day on the moon last for two weeks on the earth. IV. Post – listening - Ask Ss to work in pairs and discuss about life on the moon * Chain game: S1 : There are rivers on the Moon S2: There are rivers and lakes on the Moon S3: There are rivers and lakes and mountains on the Moon S4: There are no sounds on the Moon V. Knowledge: - Understand the text about space trip. - Ask and answer questions about the text. - Vocabulary: push up, orbit, totally, marvelous, physical condition - Grammar: Conditional type 1 (review) 2. Competence: Communication, Co- operation, Self – learning capacity, Creative capacity 3. Quality: studious, responsible and honest. 4. Skills: Reading and speaking. B. Preparation - Teacher: Textbook, lesson plan, flashcards, laptop, loudspeaker, projector. - Students: Textbook, notebook, pen C. Procedures I. Warm up: Chatting - Do you want to travel? - Have you ever traveled in our country or abroad? - Have you ever dreamed of a trip to space? - Do you think traveling onto space takes a lot of money? II. Pre-reading 1. Answer key: 1) If you decide to take a space trip, you’ll have to run a lot, swim every day, and do aerobics and push-ups to have an excellent physical condition. 2) If you want to show you are in perfect health, you must get a letter from the doctor.
