Son Tien Secondary School Lesson plan of English 9 Period: 1st Planning date: 08/09/20 REVISION A. Aim By the end of the lesson Ss will be able to review about some language focus in English 8 and get started to English 9. - Teaching aids: T’s and Ss’ books. - Lexical Items: - Grammar: verb tenses, reported speech, passive forms (Review) B. Procedures I. Warm – up: II. Presentation/practice 1. Verb tenses a) Past simple and past progressive - T asks Ss to recall the forms and the uses of the tenses - Call some Ss to write them on the board + Past simple: Form: S + Vpast + O Use: Dùng để diễn tả những hành động diễn ra trong quá khứ + Past Progressive: Form: S + were/was + V-ing + Use: Dùng để diễn tả những hành động đang tiếp diễn tại một thời điểm xác định trong quá khứ. T asks Ss to compare the difference b/t the two tenses • Exercises: 1. Do you like this picture? I (just paint) . it. 2. Ann (have) .lunch when Tom came. 3. At eight o’clock last night, Ba (watch) . TV. 4. When the door bell (ring) ., Ann was having a bath 5. I (not visit) .my friends very often. 6. Lan said that she (go) ..to Vinh city the previous day - Have Ss do the task in groups of four - Call some Ss to write the answers on the board. - T corrects if necessary. Reported speech - Have Ss repeat the forms of reported speech in questions and statements. Note: Changes verb tenses and adverbs from direct speech to reported speech - Ask Ss to do the following exercise. • Change the following sentences into reported speech a) “I am a student”. Nam said b) “Are you a teacher?” He asked me c) “Do you live in Ha Tinh?” Ba asked Nam d) “We will go to Ho Chi Minh city tomorrow.” I said - Call some Ss to write their answers on the board. - T corrects if necessary. 3. Passive forms - Have Ss revise the form and the uses of the passive forms - Call one student to write on the board. Form: S + be + V(PP)+ .+ by + O. * Exercise: Change the following sentences into passive forms a) Someone will clean the class. b) We can solve this exercise. c) They have built this building for a month. d) People play soccer all over the world. e) They decorated my room yesterday. - Have Ss do the task in groups of four - Call some Ss to write the answers on the board. - T corrects if necessary. Aims By the end of the lesson, Ss will be able to introduce some famous places in Hanoi, the structure with “wish”, the structure “used to + Vbare” - Teaching aids: textbook, Loudspeaker, pictures - Lexical Items: correspond, frienliness, mosque, peaceful asmosphere, keep in touch, be impressed by - Grammar: clauses after the verb “wish” B. Procedure I. Warm – up: Network HCM’s Mausoleum Places in Hanoi II. Pre - reading 1. Pre – teach vocabulary - correspond (v): liên lạc qua thư (explanation) - friendliness (n): sự thân thiện (explanation) - mosque (n): nhà thờ Hồi giáo (translation) - peaceful atmosphere (n): không khí yên bình (translation) - keep in touch (v): giữ liên lạc (explanation) - be impressed by: bị ấn tượng bởi (exp + example) • Checking: R – R 2. Set the scene T: Imagine that a foreign pen pal is coming to stay with you for a week. What activities would you like to do during the visit? The pictures in textbook may help you. - Some Ss read loudly the places and activities that they think they will visit and do in the visit. - T writes on the board and introduces the situation in the text. - Have Ss listen to the Loudspeaker twice - Get Ss practice reading in groups of four (to help each other) - Call some Ss read the text loudly 3. Example 2: I wish you had longer vacation Form: S + Wish + S0 + Vpast + Use: Dùng để diễn tả mong muốn không có thực ở hiện tại III. While – reading 1. True – false statements a) Lan’s pen pal comes from Malaysia. b) Kuala Lumpur is a small city. c) The girls visited Hang Luoc Street on Monday. d) They will write letters to each other again. - Ss work in groups of four - Call some Ss to read the answers. - T corrects if necessary Key: a) T b) F c) F 4) T 2.
