Lesson 7: Looking back and project
A. OBJECTIVES
1. Knowledge: By the end of the lesson, Ss will use although, despite, and in
spite of to express contrast between two prices of information in the same
sentence. Use however and nevertheless to express contrast between two
sentences
a. Vocabulary: related to the topic: films.
b. Grammar: how to use however and nevertheless, although, despite, and in
spite of.
2. Skills: - reading, listening ,writing
3. Competency: General competency: self-learning, problem solving,
cooperation capability.
- Specialized competency: - Using language
4. Quality: responsibility, hard-working, honesty.
B. Teaching aids: Student’s books, textbooks, laptop and projector, etc...
C. Procedures
I. Warm up:
Chatting: What topic have you learnt in Unit 8?
- How to write a film review?
II. Vocabulary
1. Think of an example of every type of films in the box.
Ask Ss to think of as many examples of different types of films as possible.
Then ask some Ss to say out their examples in front of the class.
Example: Mr. Bean is a comedy.
“Big Ben Down” is an action film
2. Read the sentences. What types of films are people talking about?
Ask Ss to read the sentences carefully and decide which types of films the
people are talking about. Remind that the adjectives in the sentences will
provide the context for them to choose the correct types of films.
Key:

It’s a documentary. 2.It’s a romantic comedy.
3.It’s a Sci-fi film.
3. Fill in the blanks with -ed or –ing adjectives that are formed from the verbs
in brackets.

III. Grammar
First, ask Ss to do individually. Then ask them to check their answers with a
partner before discussing the answers as a class. Remind Ss to keep a record of
their original answers so that they can use that information in their Now I
can statement.

IV- Communication
6. Number the lines of the dialogue in the correct order.
First, ask Ss to do the task individually to number the lines of the dialogue.
Then ask them to check their answers with the whole class. After finishing, ask
Ss to practise saying the dialogue with their partners.

PROJECT1. Look at the film below. Think about the following questions.
- What is the purpose of a film poster?
E.g: To give information of a film.
Ask Ss to read the film posters and point out what information should be
included in a film poster. Then ask Ss to work in pairs/ groups to discuss the
question in 1. Each Ss may make notes about the ideas from his/her partner or
other group member.
2. Choose one of your favorite films and design a poster for it.
Ask each s to choose one of their favorite films, and design a poster for it. They
may use the ideas from the notes for their task.
3. Then organise an exhibition of film posters in your class.

Display Ss’ leaflets on the wall. T choose some of the posters of the film posters
and ask Ss to give comments.

II. Pre-reading
1. Matching the Festivals with the reasons: Explain to Ss that festivals are held
for different reasons. The reasons in the box are the most common ones. Ask Ss if
they know the meaning of ‘seasonal’, 'religious' and 'superstitious'. If they don't,
quickly explain them.

III. While-reading:

- Ask Ss to open their books, listen to the recording and read the conversation
quickly to check their guesses.

2. Answer the questions:
- Ss work independently. Allow them to share answers before discussing as a class.
Remember to ask Ss to read out the lines in the conversation that help them to answer the
questions. Quickly write the correct answers on the board.

listen, check and repeat their answers. Make sure that Ss pronounce correctly the
names of the festivals.

Ss.

Lesson 2: A CLOSER LOOK 1
A. OBJECTIVES: By the end of the lesson, students will be able to:

the world”.
- Pronounce two-syllable words with correct stress in isolation and in context.
2. Competence:
Communication, self-learning capability, creative capacity, ability to use of

C. PROCEDURES
I. Presentation
1. Warm up: Play the game “Network”
- Ask Ss to come to the board and write as many festivals as possible. Divide class into two
teams A and B. The team with the most festivals is the winner.

a. Complete the table:
- Have Ss look at the table in the book. Make sure that they understand what to do.

sentences and guess the part of speech of the word to be filled in each blank. Ask Ss

2. Pronunciation: Stress in two-syllable words
- T explains and gives some examples of one-, two- and three-syllable words.
- Have Ss give out some more two-syllable words. Ask Ss to read the rules in the
table. Tell them that these are the most common rules. Explain each rule and have
Ss give some examples.
a. Listen and put the words in the correct column: Have Ss read out the words
first. Then play the recording for them to listen and repeat the words. Play the
recording as many times as necessary.

III. Production
1. Talk about the festival:
In groups, Ss do the activity. They choose one activity and take turns to lengthen
their sentences by adding the activities. This can be held like a competition game.
After five minutes, which group has the longest sentence is the winner. They then
write the sentence on the board. Elicit some more sentences from other groups.
Have one S underline all the festival activities in the sentences. Remind Ss to take
notes of those sentences in their notebook.
2. Mark the stressed syllable: Ss do this exercise individually first then compare
their answers with a partner. Call some Ss to go to the board and write their
answers.
Play the recording and stop after each underlined word for Ss to check their
answers. Play the recording again for Ss to repeat each sentence.
Ss work in pairs to practice the sentences. Call some Ss to read the sentences out
loud.

IV. Homework
