Son Tien Secondary School Lesson plan of English 6 Period 16th Planning date: 10/10/20 UNIT 3: MY FRIENDS Lesson 1: Getting started A. Aims By the end of the lesson, Ss can use lexical items related to the topic “ My friends”; use the present continuous to talk about future plans and arrangements; identify and practice the language of polite requests and guess the meaning of the new words based on clues including pictures and surrounding words. - Lexical items: surprise, guest, picnic, friendly, pass, magazine, glass. - Skills: listening, reading, writing Teaching aids: Posters, pictures, loudspeaker B. Procedure I. Warm up: Game: Lucky Number (Activity 2) a/ Making and responding to a polite request: + Can you (pass the biscuits for me), please? + Yes, sure. b/ Making and responding to a suggestion: + Would you like to ( sit down )? + Oh, sorry. We can’t. / + Yes, I’d love to. - Ss work in pairs, take turns to choose a number. - Ss look at the gird and either ask for help or make a suggestion. If it is 1, 3, 5 ask for help. If it is 2, 4, 6 make a suggestion. II. Presentation 1. Matching: (Vocabulary) + surprise (adj): ngạc nhiên + guest (n): khách + picnic (n): cuộc đi chơi và ăn ngoài trời + friendly (adj): thân thiện + pass (v): trao, đưa + magazine (n): tạp chí + glass (n): kính, đồ dùng bằng thủy tinh * T sets the scene the dialogue by asking Ss to look at the picture. Ss guess what the picture might show or what the conversation might be about. - What is Phuc doing? - What are they eating and drinking? 2. III. Practice 1. Adjectives for personality - Ss practice speaking 10 adjectives. - T asks Ss to look for clues (pictures, words in context) to guess the meaning of new words. - T tells Ss they will only need 5 of the 10 adjectives to complete this activity. - Ss write the correct adjectives in the gaps. - Ss listen to the tape and check their answers. KEY: 1. creative 2. kind 3. confident 4. talkative 5. clever 2. Model sentence: T elicits the sentences in 3. Example: Thu is kind. Structure: S + be (not) + adjective T asks Ss to give some sentences about the class. Ss complete the sentences, using the correct form of “be”. IV. Aims: By the end of the lesson, Ss will be able to use vocabulary and structures about body parts, appearances and personality; learn plural nouns and pronounce 2 sounds: /b/ and /p/ - Grammar: “Have” for description - Lexical items: vocabulary of appearance - Skills: listening, reading, writing - Teaching aids: Posters, pictures, loudspeaker B. Procedure I. Warm up: Sing a song: Knees and Toes II. Presentation 1. Vocabulary: Activity 1 - T asks Ss to read some words about appearances, body parts. Face/ head / eye / ear / lips / mouth / tooth / nose/cheek Neck / Shoulders / Arm / Hand / Finger / leg / foot / knee / elbow Animal: Fur (lông thú)/ Tail Some adjectives: long # short, big # small, round # long, black # blonde, curly # straight, chubby (mập mạp) - Ss match the words they know. - Ss listen, check and repeat the words. - T asks Ss to point out the plural nouns: Learn: Watch out! 2. Noun + s/es Irregular nouns: teeth, feet -T checks Ss’ comprehension by asking to respond to imperative sentences. Eg: “Touch your head.” III. Practice * Activity 1: Create word webs (task 2) - T explains that some words go together. Does she have a round face? - Ss look at their friends and put sentences to describe appearances. * Activity 2 (task 6): - Ss look at the cover page of 4Teen magazine - Ss make the sentences individually. - Ss discuss their answers with their partner. Key: 1/ Does the girl have short hair? _ No, she doesn’t. 2/ Does Harry Potter have big eyes? 3/ The dog has a long tail. 4/ And you, do you have a round face? - Yes, I do. / No, I don’t. * Activity 3 (task 7): - Ss look at 3 pictures. - T introduces: Phuc, Duong and Mai are talking about best friends. - T uses questions to elicit vocabulary about the pictures. - Ss predict the content of the recording. - Ss listen to the tape and match the pictures to the people. - Feedback: Ss answer - Answers: a. Aims By the end of the lesson, Ss can use the present continuous to talk about future plans and arrangements. - Grammar: present continuous - Teaching aids: Posters, pictures, loudspeaker - Skills: listening, reading, speaking B. Procedure I. Warm up: Play the alphabet game - T calls each letter of the alphabet: a / t / h / p. - Ss try to recall a verb beginning with each letter, eg: A: act, ask II. Presentation * Activity 1 - T asks Ss to recall what happened in the conversation in Getting started. - Ss listen to part of the conversation again. - T asks Ss to focus on the verbs and circle them. - Answers: I’m visiting my grandma and grandpa. We’re working on our school project. - T uses the grammar box to explain: The present continuous for future: BE + V-ING S + am / is / are + ( not ) + V-ing ... * Some V-ing describe actions happening now, and some describe plans for future. Example: I’m not coming tonight. I’m busy. Notice: - contextual clues, such as use of adverbs of time: tomorrow, tonight - some verbs lose their final “e ‘ when –ing is added: riding, talking III. Practice * Activity 2 - Ss fill in the table with sentences from the conversation. - Ss feedback with their reasons for their choices. Actions now Plans for future They’re coming over. Ss draw the table from Monday to Sunday Ss write activities next to each- they should add 3 activities listed in 5. Example: Nhung’s week Mon Tue Wed Thu Fri Sat Sunday swimming project party Ss practice the model conversation with the class. Ss go around the class and invite friends to go to your party on the day you have decided. How many people can come to your party? Ss tell the class about their plans, eg: On Tuesday, I’m going swimming with my friends. V. Homework 1. Practice using the present continuous for future. 2.
