Son Tien Secondary School Lesson plan of English 6 Period 89th Planning date: 17/04/21 UNIT 11: OUR GREENER WORLD Lesson 3: A closer look 2 A. Objectives 1. Knowledge: By the end of the lesson, ss will be able to: - Use the lexical items related to the topic “our Greener World” - Use conditional sentences-type 1 correctly and appropriately 2. Skills: Use of English 3. Competence: Communication, self-learning capability, creative capacity 4. Teaching aids: book, planning, picture, laptop, projector C. Procedures I. Warm up- Back to the board - Divide the class into two teams. - Have one student from each team to go to the board and stand back to the board. - Write some words on the board - The two teams explain in English - The students on the board try to say out the words. - Earth - plant - fresh water - forest - rubbish - flood - air - pollution II. Presentation: Conditional type 1 - Let students listen to the conversation from Getting started again paying attention to conditional type 1. * Model sentences: If we all use this kind of bag, we'll help the environment. If more people cycle, there will be less air pollution. * Form: If + S + V (present simple tense), S +will/ won't + V. If clause main clause * Meaning: Ask Ss to translate the model sentences into Vietnamese. * Use: to describe a thing which is possible and likely to happen in the present or future * Note: the main clause can come before or after if clause. + If we put if clause in the front, there should be a comas + If clause is never used with future tense though there is adverb of time in the future III. Practice a. Matching: Match an if clause in A with a main clause in B - Ask Ss to work in pair doing the task - Then call someone to the board to do - Check, correct and check if they understand the meaning of the sentences * Key: 1 – c 2 – e 3 – b 4 – a 5 – d c. Combine each pair of sentences: Game: “Throwing the ball” - Ask Ss to use the form of conditional type 1 to join these pairs of sentences - Call some students to come to the board to write down their sentences - Check, correct 1. If we pollute the air, we will have breathing problem 2. If people pollute the water, a lot of fish will die 3. If we cut down trees in the forest, there will be more floods 4. If the soil is polluted, plants will die 5. If there is noise pollution, people and animals will have hearing problems d. Complete the sentences: (Optional) - Ask Ss to use their own ideas to complete the sentences - Let them share with their friend and check if they have the same sentences - Call on some Ss to write their sentences on the board, ask others to comment. + If you walk to school, you will help reduce air pollution. + If you use recycled paper, you will save the trees. + If the Earth becomes hotter, the sea level will rise. + If parents teach their children about the three Rs, they will help the environment. + If you want to save a lot of electricity, you will have to turn off all the lights before going out. e. Fun matching: T divides the class into groups A and B and gives Ss a strip of paper. Ss from group A write an If clause. Ss from group B write a main clause. After 5 minutes Ss try to make a sentence by matching the clauses on their strips of paper with a clause from the other group. T give marks to those groups who has the most matched sentences. III. OBJECTIVES: By the end of the lesson, students will be able to: 1. Knowledge: - Read for specific information about tips on how to be 'green'. - Know more come words related to the topic ‘Our greener world” 2. Competence: Communication, self-learning capability, creative capacity 3. Quality: hardworking, responsible and honest. 4. Skills: Speaking, listening B. Teaching aids: Textbook, posters C. PROCEDURES * Warm up: - Greetings - Ss retell the conditional sentences type 1. Ex: (1) If we plant more trees, the air won’t be so polluted (2) If I find a beautiful old glass, I will decorate it to make a flower vase. I. Pre-speaking 1. Activity 1. Kim’s game: The 3Rs T shows these sentences (poster), Ss remember and write again) - Reduce: + The use of plastic bags (by using cloth or jute bags while shopping) + The use of water (by closing taps while brushing) + The use of electricity (by turning off TV, fans and lights) - Reuse: + Newspapers or magazines (for wrapping gifts) + Old clothes and toys (by donating for the poor) + Empty glass or plastic bottles (by filling them again) - Recycle: +Waste paper (to make new paper for books, notebooks ) + Kitchen wastes (by converting them into vermicompost) + Glass and plastic (to make new things) 2. Activity 2: New words (T explains some words) - To do a survey: an examination of opinions, behavior. etc., made by asking people questions - wrap: to cover or surround something with paper , cloth, or other material. - be in need: need help - breeze: a gentle wind - recycling bin: a container for waste that will be recycled, for example, paper or glass. II. While- speaking 1. Activity1: Survey. How ‘Green’ are you? - Ss answer the questions individually and then turn to page 57 to check their answers and count the points. - Ask some Ss to speak out the points they received.
