UNIT 10: OUR HOUSE IN THE FUTURE
Lesson 2: A closer look 1
A. Objectives: By the end of the lesson, students will be able to:
1. Knowledge:
- Use the lexical items related to the topic of the lesson.
- Use Will + V for the future and might + V for future possibility.
- Pronounce sounds /dr/, /tr/ correctly.
2. Competence: Communication, ability to use language, self-learning capacity,
creative capacity, cooperation
3. Quality: hardworking, responsible, co- operative.
4. Skills:Listening and speaking.
B. Teaching aids: Textbook, TV, computer
C. Procedures
* Warm up: Kim’s game.
- T shows the pictures of the appliances.
- T divides the class into two groups to play the game.
* Key: fridge, cooker, electric fan, stereo, computer, television (wireless TV),
kettle, hairdryer, air conditioner.
I. Presentation
1. Activity 1: Vocabulary
- T plays the recording and let Ss listen to the words. Play it again with pauses
for Ss to repeat each word.
- T corrects Ss pronunciation.
- Let Ss work in pairs to put the words in the box into the columns.
- T checks Ss’ answers and explains to Ss that they may use one word more than
once.
* Suggestion:

2. Activity 2: Matching
- T asks Ss to work individually to match the appliances in A with the things
they can or might do in B.
- T calls some Ss to write the sentences on the board. T checks their answers.
Eg: A hi-tech robot looks after children

II. Practice
1. Activity 1: Ask and answer questions.

Ex: A: What does a wireless TV do?
B: It helps us watch TV programmes from space.
Ss work in pairs
2. Activity 2: Pronunciation
- Present the two sounds.
- Play the recording twice:
+ First, allow Ss to listen and repeat the chants sentence by sentence. Help them
recognise the two sounds. Let Ss practice the sounds /dr/ and /tr/ together. Ask Ss
to observe the T’s lips positions for these two sounds.
+ Then, ask them to write the words in columns. Let them check their answers in
groups.
- Call some Ss to write their answers on the board.
- Correct mistakes
Key:
Sound /dr/: drive, drops, drip, dripping
Sound /tr/: countryside, travel, train, tractor, track
III. Production
1. Activity 1: Say the words you have written and add some more words: /dr/ /tr/

2. Activity 2: Speaking
- divide class into 4 groups
- each group create a word web about a room in the house with some appliances
and their usage
- Ss from each group speak about their room
Eg: In my kitchen we will have an automatic dishwasher, a modern fridge, a hi-
tech robot
+ The modern fridge will help us cook special foods
+ The automatic dishwasher will help us wash and dry clothes
+ The hi- tech robot will help us sweep and clean the floor
IV. Homework
- Learn by heart vocabulary.
- Do Ex 1,2 (P.26 – Workbook).
- Prepare: Unit 10: A closer look 2.

UNIT 11: OUR GREENER WORLD
Lesson 3: A closer look 2
A. Objectives: By the end of the lesson, ss will be able to:
1. Knowledge:
- Use the lexical items related to the topic “our Greener World”
- Use conditional sentences-type 1 correctly and appropriately
2. Competence: Communication, ability to use, self-learning, cooperation
3. Quality: hardworking, responsible and honest.
4. Skills: listening, reading, writing
B. Teaching aids: textbook, planning, picture, laptop, projector
C. Procedures
I. Warm up
Back to the board
- Divide the class into two teams.
- Have one student from each team to go to the board and stand back to the board.
- Write some words on the board
- The two teams explain in English
- The students on the board try to say out the words.
- Earth - fresh water
- rubbish - air
- plant - forest
- flood - pollution
II. Presentation: Conditional type 1
- Let students listen to the conversation from Getting started again paying
attention to conditional type 1.
* Model sentences:
If we all use this kind of bag, we'll help the environment.
If more people cycle, there will be less air pollution.
* Form: If + S + V ( present simple tense ), S +will/ won't + V.
If clause main clause
* Meaning: Ask Ss to translate the model sentences into Vietnamese.
* Use: to describe a thing which is possible and likely to happen in the present
or future
* Note: the main clause can come before or after if clause.
+ If we put if clause in the front, there should be a comas
+ If clause is never used with future tense though there is adverb of time in the
future
III. Practice
1. Write the correct form of each verb in brackets
- Run through the sentences and ask Ss to do the task individually
- Ask them to give feedback by reading the sentences aloud
- Others listen and correct

* Key: 1. is / will plant 2. recycle / will help 3. will save / don't waste
4. will have / use 5. is not / will be
2. Matching: Match an if clause in A with a main clause in B
- Ask Ss to work in pair doing the task
- Then call someone to the board to do
- Check, correct and check if they understand the meaning of the sentences
* Key : 1 – c 2 – e 3 – b 4 – a 5 – d
3. Combine each pair of sentences: Game : “Throwing the ball”
- Ask Ss to use the form of conditional type 1 to join these pairs of sentences
- Call some students to come to the board to write down their sentences
- Check, correct
1. If we pollute the air, we will have breathing problem
2. If people pollute the water, a lot of fish will die
3. If we cut down trees in the forest, there will be more floods
4. If the soil is polluted, plants will die
5. If there is noise pollution, people and animals will have hearing problems
4. Complete the sentences : (Optional)
- Ask Ss to use their own ideas to complete the sentences
- Let them share with their friend and check if they have the same sentences
- Call on some Ss to write their sentences on the board, ask others to comment.
+ If you walk to school, you will help reduce air pollution.
+ If you use recycled paper, you will save the trees.
+ If the Earth becomes hotter, the sea level will rise.
+ If parents teach their children about thr three Rs, they will help the
environment.
+ If you want to save a lot of eletricity, you will have to turn off all the lights
before going out.
IV. Production: Fun matching
- T divides the class into groups A and B and gives Ss a strip of paper. Ss from
group A write an If clause. Ss from group B write a main clause. After 5 minutes
Ss try to make a sentence by matching the clauses on their strips of paper with a
clause from the other group.
- T give marks to those groups who has the most matched sentences.
V. Homework:
- Learn by heart structure
- Make sentences with the structure
- Complete Exercises part B
- Get ready for Communication

Lesson 4: Communication
A. Objectives: By the end of the lesson, students will be able to:
1. Knowledge:
- Have a brief overview of several homes in the future
- Describe kinds of houses and appliances in the future.
- Use lexical items related to future houses and appliances: simple future tense
with “will and might”
- Information about different houses in the future (name, kinds, )
2. Competence: communication, self-learning capacity creative capacity
3. Quality: hardworking, responsible and honest.
4. Skills: listening and speaking
B. Teaching aids: textbook, posters, projector
C. Procedures
* Warm up: Chatting
+ Ss work groups to talk about things we might do in the future
I. Pre- speaking
Activity 1: Matching
- Ss match the each pair of activity

Activity 2: Game
- Write the following phrases on six small pieces of paper.
- T gives each group six cards or pieces of paper

- go on holiday to the beach.
- send postcards to friends.
- Ss play the game in groups of 4 students following the instructions.
Ex: In the future, we won’t go on holiday to the beach but we might go on holiday
to the moon.

Activity 1: Class survey
a. Ask ss to answer the questions by saying “Yes or No” in the boxes.
b. Let ss read the conversation in the example, pay attention to the Yes or No
answers appropriate to the information in a.

Activity 1: Retell
Ask ss to read the example about the interview in b).
Example:
You: Hi, Nam. Will you live in a hi-tech house in the future?
Nam: Yes, I will.
You: Will your house be in space?
Nam: Oh, no. It won’t.
You: So where will it be?
Nam: I’m not sure. It might be by the sea.
- Tell the class about your interview.
Activity 2: Project
- Think about an appliance you would like to have in the future.
- Make a poster for your future appliance.
- Write details about the appliance on the poster.
Example:
I will have a robot. It will help me take care of the flowers in the garden.
- Share the poster with the class.
IV. Homework
- Write sentences ‘Things we might do in the future’ using information in Game.
- Learn by heart vocabulary.
- Prepare "Unit 10 Skill 1" the next lesson.
