Techniques - Eliciting, group work, pair work, individual work IV. Procedures 1. Settle the class - Greeting and checking student’s attendance. 2. Previous lesson review - Call SS go to the board do exercises 3. Start the lesson Activity 1: Warm up. Getting stared: - T explains the exercise and guides Ss to talk about the pictures. T asks, Ss answer and Ss give the way how to saving energy. + Is the TV on? + Who is watching TV?/ Listening the radio? + Are they waste the energy?/ What should we do to save the energy? Activity 2: Acquire new skills and knowledge - T introduces the situation through the questions. Practice the dialogue with a partner: - Teacher guides Ss to read the dialogue - Ss read the dialogue in pairs. Ss practice reading before class -> T corrects. b. T/F statement prediction: - Set the scene: Mrs. Ha is talking to his neighbor, Mrs. Mi and Mrs. Ha looks very worried. Now, work in pairs and guess about the conversation between them. 1. Mrs. Ha is worried about her water bill. 2. Mrs. Mi gives Mrs. Ha advice on how to save water. 3. Mrs. Ha has checked the pipes in her house and found no cracks. 4. Mrs. Ha suggests getting some tools to check cracks in the pipes. 5. Mrs. Mi suggests taking showers to save water. *Keys: 1.T / 2.T / 3. F: has ® hasn’t / 4. F (some tools ® a plumber) / 5.T c. Comprehension questions: - Have students work in pairs, read the dialogue again and answer the questions: a. Why is Mrs. Ha worried? b. How much does Mrs. Ha pay for her water bill? c. What does Mrs. Mi advise Mrs. Ha to do? d. How much water can be wasted a month by a dripping faucet? *Keys: a. Because her recent water bill is enormous. b. She pays 200.000 for the bill. c. She advised Mrs. Ha to get a plumber to check her............... d. A dripping faucet can waste 500 liters of water a month. Start the lesson Activity 1: Warm up * Kim’game: - Have sts look at the poster of things dealing with activities in free time (for 20 second) on p. 59 and try to remember as many activities as possible. - Divide class into two groups. - Put away the posters and ask sts to go to the board and write the names of the activities they’ve just seen from memory. The group having the most right English words is the winner. Activity 2: Acquire new skills and knowledge 2.1. Pre – speaking: - Review the different ways of making suggestion. - Using picture A to set an example of making suggestion: + I think we should turn off the faucet. + I suggest fixing the faucet. - Ask Ss to give out different ways of making suggestion. Suggestion Response I suggest + V-ing .... I think we should .... Shall we ....? Why don’t we ....? How about + V-ing ....? What about + V-ing ....? Let’s + infinitive Ok. That’s a good idea. All right. No. I don’t want to. I prefer to .... Let’s .... - Ask Ss to give some examples. 2.2. Pre – listening: - Teacher introduces the request of the exercise. - Ss get the information and read the sentences. T explains and gives the words. - Ss read new words (individual). Activity 3: Practice 3.1. While – Speaking: - Asking sts use the structure and practice in pair. 3.2. While – listening: - T guides Ss to listen to the tape. Ss listen and give the result. - Ss listen again and check. T corrects (use the key) a. T/F statement prediction: - Ask Students to read and guess which statement is true and which is false. - Write students’ prediction on the board. *Keys: 1. T 2. Post – Speaking: Making suggestions using the situation and ideas given (LF3, P.64): (one table–one group; each gives one suggestion on turns) Topic: Your friend wants to improve his/her English. What do you suggest ? 4.2. Post – listening: Discussion: Ss work in groups of 4, discuss the questions: 1. What kinds of energy can be used today? 2. What are the benefits of solar energy? 3. How can people get solar energy? *Keys: 1. Coal, gas, oil, nuclear power and solar energy can be used today. 2. Solar energy is cheap, clean, effective and it doesn’t cause... 3.
