 1. Knowledge: After the lesson, students will be able to developing reading skill through read the postcard about famous cities in the United States of America.

*Vocabulary: volcano, fly –flew, situate, shore, pour, lava.

*Grammar: The past progressive with “when, while”

 2. Skills: reading skill

 3. Attitudes:

 - Positive about their lesson.

 - Students know how to learn English.

 - Ss are interested in doing exercises.

 4. Competence

 a. General capacity: self – study, communicative and collaborative, and problem solving ability.

 b. Specilized capacity: language capability

 2. Students’: text book, note book

Date of teaching: Period 71- Unit 12- A VACATION ABROAD Read I. OBJECTIVES 1. Knowledge: After the lesson, students will be able to developing reading skill through read the postcard about famous cities in the United States of America. *Vocabulary: volcano, fly –flew, situate, shore, pour, lava. *Grammar: The past progressive with “when, while” 2. Skills: reading skill 3. Attitudes: - Positive about their lesson. - Students know how to learn English. - Ss are interested in doing exercises. 4. Competence a. Students’: text book, note book III. METHODS, TECHNIQUES 1. Methods: Communicative approach, discussion group,. 2. Techniques: Eleciting, pair work, individual work IV. PROCEDURE 1. Organization - Greetings. - Who’s absent today? 2. Check the old lesson Ask ss answer the question: What is the weather like today? And How about the temperature? 3. New lesson Activity 1. Warm up - Chatting with ss Do you remember Mrs Quyens? What plan did she have? How many pictures are there? Have you ever seen these pictures? Where is it? - T introduces the new lesson. Activity 2. New form of knowledge skills - Let students look at the pictures and guess which places she visited. - T explains some words, phares and structure related the lesson fly –flew (v): bay situate (adj): ở vào một tình thế shore (n): bờ biển pour (v): đổ lava (n): dung nham - Present progressive tense with while and when Eg: While Dad was visiting the Statue of Liberty, I went shoping The lava was pouring out when we flew overhead. Last night, when I was doing homework, the eletricity went out Use: The past continuouns tense with “While” and “When” express an action happening in the past. Activity 3. Practice - Ask ss to work in pair: ask and answer the question a, d, e in exercise 2. - Call some ss go to the board and write the answer while others do orally - T and others give comments a. She went there by plane. d. It is also called " The windy City " e. She went shopping. Activity 4. Further practice Choose the best answer 1. The doorbell rang/ was ringing while he watched/ was watching TV 2. How fast did you drive/were you driving when the accident happened/was happening? 3.What did you do/ were you doing this time yesterday?- I worked/was working on the computer 4. It suddenly began/ was beginning to rain while she sat/was sitting in the garden 5. When I saw/was seeing them, they tried/were trying to find a new house Key 1- rang- was watching 2- were you driving- happened 3- were you doing - was working 4- began- was sitting 5- I saw - were trying Activity 5. Expanding Remind all main points for ss. to remember and practice at home. V. HOMEWORK - Ss study the lesson - Ss prepare for next lesson: Language focus.
