Lesson 2: A Closer Look 1
A. Objectives: By the end of the lesson, students will be able to:

- Know types and sources of energy,
- Know how to stress in the three-syllable words.
2. Competence: Communication, ability to use language, self-learning capacity,
creative capacity, cooperation
3. Quality: hardworking, responsible and honest.
4. Skills: listening, speaking, writing

* Warm- up

- Non-renewable sources of energy: coal, oil, natural gas
- Renewable: wind, water, solar energy

Activity 2: How to stress in three-syllable Nouns and Adjectives
- Give example
- Ask Ss how to stress the nouns and the adjectives with three syllables by looking
at the examples
- Explain the rules
- Have Ss practice in chorus
Rule 1: Ooo: When Syllable 2 &3 are short vowels. (very popular)
Eg: excellent, difficult , president , plentiful , energy accident, dangerous
Rule 2: oOo When Syllable 2 is a long vowel or a diphthong and Syllable 3 is a
short vowel or diphthong /ou/. (popular)
Eg : disaster, potato, enormous, expensive, convenient, advantage ..
II. Practice
Activity 1: (Ex1.p40)
- Ask ss to discuss and give the answer in groups
- Give keys:

- Ask ss do the task in groups
- Give keys:
1. solar – clean / safe 2. non-renewable

Activity 3: Listen and repeat.
- Ask Ss to listen and repeat the words, paying attention to the correct stress in the
three-syllable words.
- Play the recording, pause the recording to drill difficult words
- Let Ss read the words aloud and write them in the correct columns.
- Check and confirm the correct answers

- Have Ss read the sentences and mark (') the stressed syllable in the underlined
words

3. Natural gas is ‘limited and it is harmful to the en’vironment.

4. Skills: listening, reading, writing

C. PROCEDURES
I. Warm- up
Questions: Review simple future tense
1. What will it be tomorrow ?
2. Where will you go for this summer vacation ?
3. When will you have a party for your next birthday ?
4. How will the world change if we use up all the non-renewable energy sources?

II. Presentation
Activity 1: The future continuous tense .
- give examples and ask ss to give the form and the use
- give some notes
Ex:
1. At 8.00 tomorrow morning, I will be learning Math at school.
2. This time next summer, we will be visiting Paris
=> expressing an action in progress at a definite point of time in the future.

Note 1 : The future continuous often company with a definite point of time in the
future ( Adverbs of time )such as

Activity 2: The future simple passive form
- give some examples and ask ss to give the forms of future passive form
Examples.
-Solar panels will be put on the roof of the houses.
- The exercises will be finished tomorrow.
- Low energy light bulbs will be used widely.

- Talk about their carbon footprint
- Tell the ways how to save energy in life.
2. Skills: Speaking and reading.
3. Attitude: - Save the source of energy, it is important for our planet.
- Students know how to use the energy effectively.
4. Competence: Communication, self-learning capability, creative capacity,
ability to use of language
B. Teaching aids: textbook, planning, picture, laptop, and projector.
C. Procedures
I. Warm up
* Questions:
1. What did you do to save energy?
2. What do you usually do to save energy?
3. What will you do to save energy?

Activity 2: Report your partner’s carbon footprint to your groups / class. Use the

For example: My partner’s carbon footprint is bog. He is considerate because
uses lots of baths. He could try harder to use showers instead of baths. By
reducing the baths, he can help to save energy in the future.
