Lesson 4: Communication
A. Aims
By the end of the lesson, Ss will be able to read a description of famous
children's programmes for specific information.
- Skills: reading, speaking
- Teaching aids: pictures
B. Procedure
* Warm up: - Name some children's programmes.
I. Vocabulary:
+ clumsy (adj): vụng về (translation)
+ mini-series (n): phim ngắn dài kỳ (example)
+ cute (adj): xinh xắn (synonym)
+ (to) entertain: giải trí (synonym)
+ adventure (n): cuộc phiêu lưu (translation)
+ audience (n): khán thinh giả (explanation)
+ (to) appear: xuất hiện (translation)
=> Check: R.O.R
II. Reading
1. Complete the facts with the name of the correct country in the box
- Have say some information they know about the programmes: Pokémon,
Weekend meeting, Discovery, Donald Duck, Sherlock
- Ask Ss whether they know which countries these programmes come from.
- Run through the name of the country in the box. Have Ss work in pairs
to complete Ex1.
- Introduce some more information about these programmes.
2. Do you agree with the following statements:

- Let Ss read the statements and discuss in group of 2-4, then let them talk freely
to see how Ss feel and what they think about television. (Don't correct them).
3. Read about two famous TV programmes for children:
- Have Ss read the passages in silence.
- Ask Ss to return to Activity 2 and see if they want to change any of their
previous answer(s).
4. Read the fact in the table and tick the correct programme(s):
- Let Ss read the texts and answer the questions.
- Check and correct.
5. Work in groups
- Allow Ss about 2-3 minutes to choose the program they prefer and prepare
for their speaking. Encourage Ss to focus on explaining why they like it.
- Ask Ss to work in groups of 4, talk about their choice.
III. Homework
1. Learn by heart vocab and the passages in 3a.

Lesson 5: Skills 1
A. Aims
By the end of the lesson, Ss will be able to read the schedule for Around the
World for specific information; practice speaking to tell their friends about their
favourite TV programme.
- Skills: reading, speaking
- Teaching aids: posters
B. Procedure
* Warm up:
“Tell about your favourite programme”
- T calls 2 Ss to tell about their favourite TV programme
I. Reading:
1. Vocabulary
+ documentary n): phim tài liệu (example)
+ Jupiter (n) sao mộc (translation)
+ discover (v) khám phá (synonym = explore)
+ planet (n) hành tinh (example)
+ system (n) hệ thống (translation)
+ knowledge (n): sự nhận biết (translation)
+ skating (n): môn trượt băng (picture)
+ rink (n): sân trượt băng (picture)
==>Check ROR.
- Ask Ss to read the schedule for Around the world and do ex 1 independently.
- Explain any words that Ss do not know.
2. Read the schedule
- T introduces a TV schedule.
- Ask Ss to read the schedule.
- T asks Ss simple question to explore content of schedule (the time, the name of
the programme and its content)
- T ask Ss to do this task carefully because it helps Ss complete task 2.
Eg: Games show: Children are always right.
The game show this week will test your knowledge about the Amazon jungle.
3. Answer the question
- T checks Ss’ comprehension of the schedule.
- Encourage Ss to answer all the questions independently.

4. Choose the best programme
- Ask Ss to discuss with their friends (2-3 students in a group).
- There are related concepts that T might explain: the universe, the planet,
Jupiter, water, fish, ocean and the pacific.
KEY:

II. Speaking
- Ask Ss to work in groups.
- Allow Ss about 2-3 minutes to choose programme they prefer and prepare for
their speaking.
- Ask Ss to explain why they like it.
- Ss might not know the English version for the name of the programme. They
can still use the Vietnamese name. The most important thing is for them to talk
about the content of the programme and why they like it.
- T write on the board the name of each Ss’ favourite programme so that at the
end of the activity the whole class can see if there are many Ss who love the
same programme.

Lesson 6: Skills 2
A. Aims
By the end of the lesson, Ss will be able to listen for specific information from a
recommended TV schedule; write a short guided passage about one's TV-
watching habits.
- Skills: listening, writing
- Teaching aids: poster, loudspeaker
B. Procedure
* Warm up
- Name some TV programmes.
- Have Ss look at the pictures and say what programmes they are. -> music,
cartoon, film, home and garden, our world.
I. Listening
1. Listen and tick the correct channel for each programme:
- Ask Ss to read the schedule, ask them to read aloud and check on their
pronunciation.
- Play the recording and let Ss listen and tick the correct channel for each
programme. Ask Ss to only focus on the information they need.
2. Listen and tick T/F
- Run through the statements: Let Ss read the sentences first and see if they can
answer any of the statements based on the previous listening.
- Play the recording again. If Ss have difficulty catching the information and
determining their answers, pause the recording after each sentence. Suggest Ss
to take notes about the time for each programme and use them as reference.

II. Writing

1. Pre-questions
- Let each student read the questionnaire and choose the most appropriate
answers for him/her.
- Check on Ss' answers.
2. Write
- T asks Ss to use the answers to write a short description of their TV-watching
habits.
Begin with: I enjoy watching TV. I like . I usually watch ..
I usually turn off the TV I think I have a good/bad TV watching
habits.
III. Homework
1. Finish your writing on the notebook
