Son Tien Secondary School Lesson plan of English 6 Period: 1st Preparing date: 05/09/20 REVISION AND INTRODUCTION A. Aims By the end of the lesson, Ss will be able to master the structure of English 6 and the way to learn each section in each unit and how to practice them. B. Procedure I. Warm up: Lucky Numbers 1. What are the differences between the old textbook and this one? - Structure, Topic, Content, Skills, Activities, Layout / Pictures 2. LN! 3. What are the good/ weak points of the new textbook? 4. What is the part at the end of each Unit? (Project) 5. What difficulties might you cope with in teaching this new textbook? 6. LN! 7. What is the name of Unit 6? (Our Tet holiday) 8. What can be improved about this textbook? 9. LN! 10. What is the part at the end of English 6? (Glossary) II. Introducing the structure of an English book: 1. This book contains 12 units with 12 subjects that you’ve learnt in grade 5 but with the larger information. 2. The components of the textbook: The student’s book and the workbook. 3. The student’s book contains: The book map : introduction to the basics of each unit, 12 topic-based Units, each covering 8 sections to be taught in seven 45 – minute lessons, 4 Reviews, each providing revision and further practice of the previous three units, to be dealt within two periods. 4. Each Unit goes or follows the steps (Getting started, A closer look 1, A closer look 2, Culture studies/ communication, Skills 1: Reading + Speaking, Skills 2: Listening + writing, Looking back + Project) 5. Looking back + Project is at the end of each unit .Its contents are main grammar notes, further practice. III. The way to prepare a lesson well at home 1. Depending on each Unit, you have to read the content of a lesson well, prepare vocabulary, grammar... 2. According to the parts: Listen and Read, Language focus, or Read. Master the content of these, find new knowledge, find the meaning and the pronunciation of each new word. It is better for you to learn it by heart at home. 3. After a lesson, relearn the lesson, learn the vocabulary by heart and write them correctly and do the exercises in your Exercise Book. 4. You must master the main and basic grammar notes well. They are very important. You must master their theories and then do the exercise. 4. If you have more free time, read reference books, listen to the tape or listen to the radio, watch the program of teaching English on TV on Tuesday and Thursday afternoon. 5. You can practice speaking English every day, or practice English with your classmates at class. IV. Homework: 1. Run through the textbook 1 2. Aims By the end of the lesson, Ss can understand the Procedure of the dialogue “A special day”, use the lexical items related to school, practice reading, listening and speaking. - Teaching aids: poster, pictures, cards, CD B. Procedure I. Warm up: Ss do some warm up activities through Hang man game school student teacher learn 1. Set the scene - T writes on the board “A special day” Why? - T explains the word “special” Look at the picture. This is Phong. What is he doing? Who is she? Who are Vy and Duy? You are going to read the dialogue between Phong, Phong’s Mum, Vy and Duy. a. T/F prediction statements: - Ss look at the 5 statements (on page 5) and guess T/ F * Checking Ss’s predictions: Teacher plays the recording Ss open their books, listen, read and check the answers. T tells Ss to refer back to the conversation to find the expressions: + Oh dear. + You’ll see + Come in + Sure. - Practise saying them together (play the recording again if necessary) - T explains the meaning or gives synonyms to the Ss then gives some examples Key: + used to express surprise + you’ll find out + used to invite somebody + used to say “yes / alright” - T gets Ss to reread the sentences which contain the expressions Planned by: TrÇn Huy Th«ng 3 Son Tien Secondary School Lesson plan of English 6 - T asks Ss to role-play the short conversation in pairs before creating short role –plays. More able Ss can try to extend the conversation. 3. Poem a. T plays the recording, lets the whole class read the poem with the right intonation and rhythm. Asks questions to check Ss’ understanding of the poem: - Who are going back to school? - When does his new school year start? - What has Nam got? b. Ss answer then work in pairs and write a poem about their partner, then read them aloud. (T uses poster with the poem and guides Ss to replace the necessary words, encourages Ss’ creation) Example: Nga is going back to school today. Her friends are going back to school, too. Her new school year starts today. She’s got a nice school bag. She’s got a new bike. Her friends are on their way. Notes: + Have / Has got .. + S + am / is / are + Ving .(The present continuous ) + S + V (s/es) (The present simple) 4. Listen and match: - Ask Ss to match the words with the school things. T plays the recording, Ss listen and repeat. Let Ss practice saying the names of the school things. T helps explaining if necessary. Ask Ss to write the correct words in the spaces . Allow Ss to check their answers ( in pairs or in groups). Key: 1- b 2- e 3- j 4- d 5- c 6- i 7- f 8- a 9- g 10- h 5. Speaking T tells Ss to look round the class, asks what they see around them / what they have. Point to each student and ask him / her to say . Then let them practice the words and make up sentences with the words if there is time. Ex: I have got a pencil Nam has got a calculator. III. Aims By the end of the lesson, Ss can practice the vocabulary of school and pronunciation of the sounds / əʊ / and / ʌ / - Teaching aids: poster, pictures, cards, CD B. Procedure I. Warm up: - Ss come to the board and write words related to school class homework words related to school Ss teacher T corrects their spellings II. Presentation These are the words related to school, let’s get some more through our lesson. 1. Vocabulary: Matching physics (n): môn vật lý history (n): môn lịch sử homework (n): bài tập về nhà judo (n): môn võ judo school lunch (n): bữa ăn trưa ở trường exercises (n): bài tập football (n): bóng đá lesson (n): bài học music (n): âm nhạc science (n): môn khoa học, tự nhiên - T plays the recording, and lets Ss listen play it again and pause for them to repeat each word. - Ss read the words, T corrects their pronunciation *Look at 2 ( with key) Play Do Have Study football homework school lunch physics music judo lessons history exercises science Planned by: TrÇn Huy Th«ng 5 Son Tien Secondary School Lesson plan of English 6 English Ss work in pairs, put the words into groups. Then check their answers. Explain to them which words go with each verb. - Look at 3, do the task individually. T calls some Ss to write on the board then check their answers Key: 1 – homework 2 – football 3 – lessons 4 – judo 5 – science - T asks Ss to write sentences about themselves in their notebooks using the combination above. Ss can write as many sentences as possible. Ex: I have English lesson on Tuesdays and Saturdays =study 2. Pronunciation - Look at 5: listen and repeat / Let Ss practice the sounds / əu/ and / ۸ Ask Ss to observe the teacher’s lip positions for those two sounds. T plays the recording and asks Ss to listen and repeat. Play recording as many time as necessary. - Look at 6: T plays the recording twice. Allow Ss to work individually then let them check their answers in groups. T may call some Ss to write their answer on the board. T corrects the mistakes / əʊ /: rode, don’t, hope, homework, post. / ʌ /: some, Monday, month, come, one. - Look at 7: SS look through sentences, recognize the two sounds, underline them, T plays the recording, lets Ss repeat sentences by sentences and check. + They are going to open a new library + I’m coming home from school + His brother eats lunch in the second canteen + The new school year starts next month + My brother is doing his homework + He goes to the judo every Sunday III.
