Activity 1: Warm - up

Activity 2: Acquire new skills and knowledge
- T. introduces the lesson:
“ Passage B1 is about a letter from Tim Jones, Hoa’s penal. In this letter, Tim
tells about his parents’ daily work & we will know the differences between an
American’s life & Vietnamese’s life.”
Ordering: (for main ideas)
- T. asks Ss to predict the order of the main ideas
a. Mr Jone’s work. 3
b. Tom’s introduction of his family. 1
c. Mr Jone’s vacation time. 4
d. Mrs Jone’s work. 2
- Ss work individually first. Then they compare with their partner.
- T. asks Ss to write their predictions (ordering) on bb.
Activity 3: Practice
- Ss read the passage “ A letter from Tim Jones” silently.
- T. helps Ss correct their predictions & gives the answer key.
- T’s explanations: look after, morning shift
- Ss read the phrases chorally . Some Ss read the passage.
Activity 4: Exercise
Comprehension Questions : B1. P.77
-Ss answer the questions individually.
Answers :
a. Mrs Jones works at home. But three morning a week, she works part - time at
a local supermarket.
b. She (together with other women) cooks lunch for homeless people once a
week.
c. Mr Jones is a mechanic. He repairs machines in a factory.
d. He works about 40 hours a week
e. The Jones family always goes to Florida on vacation. They have a great time
there.
- T. asks Ss to talk about the typical daily work of an American & a Vnese.
Activity 5. Enrich ideas development
- Ss rewrite the letter P.76 replacing the information about Tim’s family with the
information about their own family.
